Beautiful Children Books For All
“Proof of Concept” of the Book Dash Model
To build strong literacy foundations, children need regular access to books, both at school and at home. Children who grow up in households with even a modest number of books tend to achieve significantly higher levels of education, regardless of their socio-economic background. Yet in Kenya and across Africa, millions of children grow up without a single storybook to call their own.
The programme brings together volunteer writers, illustrators, and designers to collaboratively develop engaging, culturally relevant storybooks for early readers. All books are published on digital platforms with open access for global use, and printed copies are distributed to children across Kenya.
At the same time, aspiring and early-career creatives gain expert training, coaching, and mentorship. Guided by established Kenyan and international professionals, participants build skills in writing, illustration, editing, and book design, from the initial concept to the final manuscript, while expanding their professional networks and career opportunities.
